Why It's On Our Shelf

The rhyming in this book is actually clever without being annoying, which is harder than it sounds. Each page sets up a peek-a-boo moment with a rhyme that makes you want to turn the page to see what's next. The die-cut holes give you just enough of a hint to build anticipation without giving away the answer. What I like most is that it works equally well for babies who just enjoy the rhythm and older toddlers who want to guess the answers. The board book format means it can handle being grabbed, chewed, and flipped through roughly, which is exactly what babies need from their books.

Why It Works

1

Phonemic Awareness

The rhyming pattern helps children recognize sound patterns and word families, building foundational literacy skills.

2

Interactive Prediction

Die-cut peepholes encourage children to guess what comes next, supporting cognitive development and problem-solving.

3

Turn-Taking Practice

The question-and-answer format naturally creates opportunities for back-and-forth interaction between reader and child.
